Sweet Melissa Sundays: Chocolate Malted Layer Cake

I almost forgot to post this week’s recipe from The Sweet Melissa Baking Book because I made it almost a year ago! My husband is a huge fan of chocolate malts, so when I saw this recipe, I knew it would be perfect for his birthday. Tall, moist layers of devil’s food cake covered in a sweet, malty chocolate frosting! I’m not a huge malt fan, but I thought the combination in this case was delicious! I’ve stated before that this devil’s food cake recipe is my favorite, and I promise, it will become your favorite too.

Thanks to Nicole of Sweet Tooth for choosing this fantastic recipe. You can find the recipe on her blog HERE.

  1. Ooo, wow, it looks great in a layer cake! How it was intended, of course, but there’s so many cupcakes instead (mine included!). I agree, this is the best devil’s food cake I’ve found – just so moist and fluffy! R x

  2. I loved the cake portion of this recipe too! The cake/frosting combo was a bit too much for me, but I’ll definitely make the cake again, with a different type of frosting.

  3. it’s fantastic seeing how everyone frosted their cake- i was going to put a ring around the edge like you did, but didn’t know what to do with the interior so i did the minimal thing. love that you chopped them up.

  4. Beautiful layer cake. Very moist and chocolaty. I made these into cupcakes. It’s another SMS winner and I will definitely be making these again!
