We were so excited to put our orchard and garden in earlier this year, that we forgot about the most important part: the deer fence. As soon as the deer found our little sour cherry saplings (and almost completely stripped them of leaves!), we came to our senses and put up a quick and dirty deer fence. When we have a little more time to sit and plan, we’ll put up something more permanent and much more beautiful. In doing a little research for our fence, I came across some really stunning fence options (like that gorgeous one above from Remodelista) that keep deer out of your precious garden while still managing to look nice. You can see the full round-up on the Style Spotters blog for BHG.
II’m not sure where you are located but as an experienced gardener, I’d suggest a more solid fence on your wind ward side, usually the North. This will protect your plants from the damaging winds and make it a bit easier for your fruit trees and tall stemmed plants such as Asiatic lilies, tomatoes etc.
Thanks for the advice!
I’m loving this fence…happy harvesting!
