Organizing our Playroom

We cleaned and reorganized our playroom over the holidays, thanks to the Dymo Letratag label maker. Two weeks in and the room is still spotless!

This post has been sponsored by Dymo. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Over the holidays, we took advantage of everyone being home and having fairly loose schedules to clean and organize a few rooms in our house that just don’t get tidied up regularly. Most rooms–the kitchen, the bathrooms, the bedrooms, the family room—get straightened up, vacuumed, and dusted every week. But rooms that don’t get seen by outsiders very often, like the playroom, never quite make it to the clean level. We always run out of time and steam before we get to them, so they get half cleaned up and nothing more. My husband and I decided that if the whole family spent a few minutes each night focusing on just one room, we’d get those stubborn, oft-ignored rooms spotless and organized once and for all. The playroom took longer than just a few minutes because it was a disorganized mess, but with everyone helping, it was tidied without anyone having to do the brunt of the work alone, and it still looks great a few weeks into the new year. The playroom was the first room that we finished in the basement. We put up cubby shelves and bought plastic bins to help keep all the toys and games organized, but we’ve still had a hard time keeping the room clean. But I really think our new system is going to stick, thanks to the Dymo® LetraTag™ Label Maker I picked up from the office supply aisle at Walmart last week. This affordable tool was the key to kicking off our toy room organization fest. First, we bought even more plastic bins, so now everything that is small enough to fit in a bin is corralled. Before the clean-up, we only had a few bins, so some things that really should have been organized in one weren’t, and things got mixed up easily. Second, I used the LetraTag to print up labels for every bin. The bins look so much better now; the printed labels are easy to read and look really nice, quite the upgrade from the handwritten labels hastily written on blue painters tape that were on a few of them before. There’s a bin for balls, a bin for each different kind of block, a bin for play food, a bin for doll clothes, and more. Now the kids don’t have to guess what’s in each bin, or where that toy they’re trying to clean up belongs. I’m even considering labeling the shelves as the next step! The LetraTag was so easy to use (it only takes one hand!), that I created, printed, and stuck on a dozen labels in less than 10 minutes. And it was fun too! If you’re anything like me and get a little label crazy, you can easily (and affordably) get refill labels so you can keep going! Now that we’ve got our playroom clean and organized, I’m thinking of all the things I want to use my Letratag label maker on next. Maybe I’ll label the shelves in the kids’ linen closet so that they know which shelf holds twin sheets, which one holds queen sheets, and where to put towels, wash cloths, and pillowcases. Or maybe I’ll label the cabinets in my office to help me find things more quickly. The beginning of a new year is my favorite time to get organized. If you’ve got the organization bug like me, you can pick up your Dymo LetraTag label maker, along with all of your organizational needs, at your local Walmart store.
